“The community acted quickly using buckets, jerrycans, saucepans, sand and other available materials to extinguish the flames before they could spread to other buildings,” SSP Kigozi said.

Their swift intervention helped save the rest of the school infrastructure and prevented further destruction of pupils’ belongings.

Police confirmed that no learners or staff members were injured and no lives were lost in the incident.

“We want to assure parents that there were no casualties. Although some pupils lost clothes and scholastic materials in the fire, everyone is safe,” Kigozi added.

Authorities have since cordoned off the affected area as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.

Police also commended residents of Kiganda for their quick and coordinated response during the emergency.

“The public’s timely intervention greatly minimised the damage. We encourage communities to continue responding safely to emergencies instead of waiting for police, whose arrival can sometimes be delayed by distance and operational challenges,” Kigozi said.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the full extent of the losses are ongoing.
